Visit for replicability and transferability in Italy
06 of June of 2019

The visit was on June 6 in the Reggio-Emilia region (Italy) and representatives of the LIFE FORAGE4CLIMATE project participated in it.

The assembly, which consisted of demonstrating how farming systems related to milk production can be effective in mitigating climate change, also included the visit to several Italian livestock farms. Such mitigation is achieved, among other activities, through the application of good practices that help limit emissions and preserve and / or increase the carbon stocks of the land (farmland, grasslands and pastures) used to produce forage for feed ruminant cattle (cattle, sheep and goats).

During the visit, representatives of the LIFE FORAGE4CLIMATE project participated, who were very interested in the good practices of the LIFE Low Carbon Feed project, which represents a clear opportunity to ensure replicability and transferability in Italy. Likewise, the meeting participants (technicians in the goat, sheep and cattle sectors) have actively contributed to the development of the economic and environmental sustainability plan of the LCFEED project, by providing relevant data and information for the analysis of this sector.

The meeting allowed establishing a large network of contacts, among which was the University of Agriculture of Athena (Greece), which expects to receive the visit of the representatives of the LCFeed project in October to learn about the LCEFEED results and show them the operation of some Greek livestock farms. Contacts were also established with other participants, whose links will strengthen replicability in the Piemonte, Lombardy and Sardinia regions. This new network of contacts is of great importance, since it will allow to achieve the objectives of replicability and transferability of the project in other European countries.
